The Adaptive Air Suspension System from Audi

The Adaptive Air Suspension System enables the vehicles to carry both sporty handling and a sensitive rolling comfort. In addition, the Audi system controls the height of the body in relation to speed. This means that if the driver is always driving at high speed, the Adaptive Air Suspension System can ensure that the level can be lowered by 15 mm. However, if the vehicle is travelling at a speed of max. 80 km/h, the system will raise the level by 35 mm. The CDC shock absorbers are also in high use. The shock absorber control unit ensures that the vehicle has a certain stability on the road. They are based on the condition of the road (smooth or bumpy), the driver's driving style and the different suspension versions (dynamic, auto, comfort, allroad, lift).

The Adaptive Air Suspension System with damper control from Audi

The new design of the Audi system is fundamentally similar to the CDC design of its predecessor and is basically available for all quattro engines. In the new Adaptive Air Suspension System with damper control, the flow cross-sections for the hydraulic fluid are changed by actuating electromagnetic valves in the damper pistons. Furthermore, the CDC dampers are included in the electronic chassis plate (EFP). In the EFP, the newly designed control unit ensures that the system functions properly by recording detailed and hair-trigger images of the driving situation and the road surface. These exact images enable the vehicle to establish firm contact with the road.

In Audi's new system, the difference between comfort mode and dynamic mode is even greater. In addition, the working speed is increased by 50% and energy consumption is significantly reduced compared to the predecessor. The Adaptive Air Suspension System with damper control can also be controlled using the Audi Drive Select program, allowing the driver to enjoy a varied driving experience. To achieve such a versatile experience, the driver has the option of changing the suspension variants to "comfort", "auto", "dynamic", "efficiency" and "offroad". In addition, the new Audi system allows for level control, which means that the car can be held at its height, lowered and raised.

In the Adaptive Air Suspension System with damper control, the trim level is changed for every driving situation. This means that if the driver is driving in allroad mode and maintains a speed of max. 80km/h the trim level is 25mm above the normal level. If the car is driven in dynamic mode the body lowers by 15mm and in all other suspension controls the body lowers automatically from a speed of 120km/h. All this leads to a certain stability of the vehicle on the road.
